Postpartum & Maternal Mental Health Support in Brisbane

Becoming a mother can be beautiful, and it can also be overwhelming, isolating and exhausting, sometimes all in the same day. At Nourished Psychology in Stafford, Brisbane (and online across Australia), I offer warm, evidence-based support for women through pregnancy, postpartum and the years that follow.

You don’t need to be “struggling enough” to reach out. If something doesn’t feel right, that’s reason enough.

Does this sound like you?

  • You’re exhausted, but your mind won’t switch off, even when the baby sleeps

  • You feel constantly on edge, or worry about things going wrong

  • You’ve lost track of who you were before becoming a mum

  • You feel flat, teary or disconnected, and you’re not sure why

  • Your birth experience is still sitting heavily with you

  • You’re told you “should be enjoying this” and can’t make that fit

  • You’re carrying the mental load of the whole household and feel resentful, guilty or both

  • If the mental load feels relentless, you might relate to The Mental Load of Motherhood: Why You’re Not Coping, and Why That’s Not Your Fault.”

What is Matrescence?

Just as adolescence is a major developmental shift, so is becoming a mother. It’s called Matrescence, and it changes your identity, relationships, body and sense of self. Many women are never told to expect it, so the confusion and grief that can come with it feel like personal failure. They aren’t.

“Many mums are never told to expect this shift. I’ve written more about it in What is Matrescence?”

Postpartum anxiety and depression

These are different experiences, and both are common and treatable. Not sure which one fits? [Read: Postpartum Anxiety vs Postpartum Depression]

How therapy can help

My approach is warm, collaborative and never rushed. Together we might:

  • Make sense of what you’re feeling and why

  • Build practical ways to settle anxiety and overwhelm

  • Work through birth experiences at your pace

  • Reconnect with your own needs, not just everyone else’s

  • Talk through the mental load and how to share it

Therapy with me doesn’t feel cold or clinical. I’m a mum too, and I know how much is being asked of you.

What to expect

We start with a free 15-minute chat to see if we’re a good fit. Sessions are available in person in Stafford or online. Initial appointments are $255 and ongoing appointments are $235. A Mental Health Care Plan or private health cover may give you a rebate.
